7 steps to celebrating International Women’s Day the climate way

Hello everyone! ??‍♀️

Tomorrow is International Women’s Day and here at Climateaction.africa, we’re excited to celebrate women all over the world who continue to put in work to ensure we have a safe and habitable environment.

To mark this special day, we have put together a list of amazing ideas to help you celebrate International Women’s Day and Women’s History Month as a whole. We hope that you find them useful and that you try them out. Enjoy.

Create awareness on social media

One easy way to celebrate International Women’s Day is to share climate-related women-centric articles, infographics, inspiring quotes, videos, and other related content on your social media. Visit climateaction.africa for a variety of resources.

Host an event to celebrate women

An event is a fun way to acknowledge the role women play in upholding climate action and to build solidarity with other women.

The event can be either an online or offline conversation to highlight what within the climate space have been doing, celebrating them and the positive and empowering impact they’ve made or are making.

Become a mentor

Mentoring women and girls who want to be like you (if you’re making an impact in the climate space through advocacy, research, career, etc.)

This is a huge commitment but has a far greater impact and you’ll have that feel-good feeling that you’ve done something useful as it’ll change both your lives.

Participate in climate advocacy

We’ve established that climate change impacts women more than men. This means there’s plenty of work to do to ensure women are not only protected from the harsh realities of the crisis but that their rights are protected.

You can join in on protests and campaigns or simply write to or call your representatives to voice your concerns.

Support a nonprofit

You can support a charity that works with women and girls in communities that are vulnerable to climate disasters. There are also organizations like Climateaction.africa that provides resources for women and girls to be educated and empowered to fight climate change and offer platforms for advocacy.

Your support, no matter how small, can make a huge impact on the lives of these women and girls.

Organize a fundraiser

Start a fundraiser to rally your friends and family behind a worthy cause! Together, your community can make a measurable difference and invest in a brighter, more equal future for women and girls. Starting a fundraiser is so easy with tools like Facebook—what are you waiting for?

Write a “thank you” note

If you’ve been in the climate space long enough, you must have come across women that inspire you. Why not write them a note to thank them for what they do and for the inspiration they give you to take action?

Showing gratitude will definitely warm their heart…and yours. Happy International Women’s Day!
