4 astonishing eco-friendly product designs you should look out for

Our environment is slowly declining due to our unhealthy practices and way of living. This has necessitated the integration of sustainability into our day-to-day lives.

We mentioned about a month ago that sustainable products will go mainstream this year because of the environmental challenges that the world is facing. Well, we’re right on course.

Designers are not left behind as they are coming up with eco-friendly alternatives for products and replacing the usual mass-produced designs with eco-friendly options, a move that will make a huge difference to the environment.

Below are 4 amazing eco-friendly product designs we’ve curated to help you live sustainably. Here you go:

Mushroom helmets

Do you know the phrase “It will grow on you”? Well, this mushroom helmet will literally grow on you as it grows too!

This Grow It Yourself Helmet is made from mycelium (the vegetative part of a fungus). The mycelium makes up the ropy hyphae that are tightly woven into mass branch-like networks of filaments which are natural binders and self-adhesive to the surface they grow on, making it a strong sustainable material.

The entire process of making this helmet is based on biological elements that help in upcycling waste.

Sustainable automotive

Did we say sustainable and eco-friendly automotive? we sure did!

There’s no denying the fact that a substantial amount of the world’s air pollution comes from vehicles. That’s why we think this sports car is the answer to mitigating vehicular pollution.

This Lamborghini will be a fully electric vehicle with the battery pack right in the middle of the chassis under the interior cabin. To keep its overall weight down, a carbon fiber frame is used.

To charge, all you have to do is plug in the charging hose into the retracting portal located at the front left-hand side just behind the front wheel – as intended with the concept.

Cardboard furniture

Traditional furniture materials like plastic and metal are beginning to take the back seat as the world tilts towards sustainability.

Cardboard has proven to be great for building sustainable products, as these designs tend to leave a minimal carbon footprint, and are recyclable and biodegradable as well. In addition, cardboard-crafted products tend to be light, portable, and also easy to assemble, making them a better alternative.

Vadim Kibardin makes furniture from cardboard, molding and shaping them all himself. He has successfully recycled about 2000 pounds of cardboard.

Cork-based products

Corks are slowly becoming everyone’s favorite and rightly so. They are biodegradable, sustainable, and very versatile (you can create almost anything from them), making them a great alternative to plastic.

Little wonder they have been gaining recognition in the design sector. An example is this intriguing concept for a vacuum cleaner which is not only multipurpose in design but also sustainable in construction.

The storage section of the vacuum cleaner is made from cork, and the vacuum pipes and other parts are designed in a manner to be stored within the cork shell that then neatly covers using a lid.
