African innovator? Apply now for the World Water Challenge 2021

Have you ever wanted a chance to pitch your creative/applicable solutions that can help address water-related challenges? If so, why not apply for the World Water Challenge 2021, an international contest for water solutions.

The competition is a yearly event held in collaboration with the Korea International Water Week (KIWW) to identify current water problems that the world is facing and to find feasible science, technology, and policy-based solutions to address them.

Having begun as a follow-up activity of the 7th World Water Forum in 2015, the initiative has become one of the symbolic platforms of implementation focusing on scientific and technological methods that have influenced the world’s awareness of the importance of the roles of science and technology in solving water challenges.

Now in its 7th edition, the World Water Challenge 2021 (WWCH 2021) will also take place as one of the signature programs of the Korea International Water Week (KIWW) 2021 incoming November in Daegu, Republic of Korea.

This year, the program will demonstrate its ability as an important platform to not only share innovative scientific/ technological methods but also policy towards solving the defined water problems around the world and to forge a broad network among the experts and stakeholders in the water sector as well as the diverse pool of problem owners and solution providers.

With the ongoing COVID-19 situation around the world, WWCH 2021 will continue to explore the special topic “Water and Health” selected last year along with five main topics to demonstrate a pathway to not only overcoming the current pandemic but also achieving the Sustainable Development Goals.

Focus areas
  • Efficient Water Management
  • Resource Recovery from Water and Wastewater Systems
  • Water and Natural Disasters
  • Smart Water Technologies
  • Ecosystem and Water
Benefits

Winners will be selected from two categories:

  • The Best – up to 10,000,000 KRW (approx. 8,400 USD)
  • Outstanding – up to 5,000,000 KRW (approx. 4,200 USD)

In addition to cash prizes, winners will have the chance to be invited to the WWCH Showcase during the KIWW 2021 and/or the 9th World Water Forum to share their solutions with experts from all around the world.

Note that if there are no qualified solutions for the “THE BEST” prize based on the decision of the evaluation committee, there may not be the winner of the year, and/or type of award and prize money may change. Also, due to uncertainty of the COVID-19 situation, WWCH 2021 Final Round could be held separately from the KIWW 2021.
